One of life's truisms is that every day we all inch closer to becoming birders. One day you're appreciating a good chirp, the next your downloading the Merlin Bird ID app
Edwin B Forsythe Preserve...which is on the way to Cape May. I went in October of 2024. Like fish in a barrel...but birds instead. Lots of new ones for me! Do it on a Saturday when Albert Music Hall in Waretown, NJ has an evening show if you like ol' timey and bluegrass music.
Shawangunk National Grassland from December to March for the Short Eared Owls and Harriers. It's outside of Wallkill. I believe you are in the Hudson Valley area.
A surprising NJ birding spot between the turnpike, plans landing at EWR, and a NJ Transit line. Dekort Parke in Lyndhurst. Last summer a bird count counted over 600 Egrets in the park. It'll likely reaffirm your utter hate for NJ but the birds will distract you. It's also on the way to Cape May.
That flycatcher is living the lie! That's not a fly in its beak.
Try BINOCULARS and NO CAMERA for real ‘birdwatching’ which is the UK term and far more descriptive. We saw glossy ibis and ospreys galore in Cape May. Better luck next time!
If you're looking for another obsession, there are a lot of fossils to find on the beach on the west side of Cape May. We went for a walk there once and I found one fossil after another... plus that insatiable desire to find just one more...
Beautiful Blackburnian, Brother.
thank you!
but Jersey likes you Noah
meet me at Wildwoods in the winter. That's my vibe.
Done.

The Merlin Bird ID app changes lives.
I wasn’t aware of this app. Thank you for helping me on my birder journey.
😂 any time
Oh friend, you've got it bad for the birds! Welcome to the club.
You should come to New Zealand if you love birds! That’s literally all we’ve got! And like, one bat species and maybe a gecko.
One day!
Beautiful, I’m a bit like you were, I pay not attention to birds but when on the occasion I do - I always appreciate how beautiful they are
But ya gotta love Cape May, the Jewel of South Jersey!
It is pretty nice. I just happen to be somewhat allergic to the beach.
A few bird-brained thoughts...
