I liked the reference to Christo and of course you should have included Jeanne-Claude. Don't be sexist! They brought art to the eveyman in a completely down to earth way. Like your surveyor although unintentionally.

As a rual land holder, I would encourage you to install some permanent corner posts. Rebar is good. Paint the tip orange but touch it up every few years. You know - In case you have to defend your land holding rights. You'll be artistic too. Like Christo and Jeanne-Claude but more subtly.
