Newsletter #146 - I am not on vacation
But it's summer and nobody wants to work anymore!
I don’t take vacations. I don’t believe in them. I don’t think I’ve ever worked hard enough to deserve a break. What would I even be taking a break from?
What am I supposed to do? Go to the beach?
I can’t stand hot weather. And nothing is more boring than sitting on a beach.
You’re telling me you want me to go away and stay in a hotel and sleep in a bed that makes my skin itch?
Nope. I can’t imagine something more uncomfortable!
Once I’m in Vacation Land, I need to try one of the hottest restaurants in the world?
You know I’ll be disappointed. No thanks. I’ll just cook myself!
You think I should visit a museum and see all the art that I’ve already seen online?
Let me tell you, the photos you’ve seen online are better than reality.
That said, I did take last week off. It wasn’t a vacation, though. I didn’t go anywhere. I stayed in my studio and worked on a bunch of projects and wanted to give everyone some updates.
I’m putting the finishing touches on the “Protect the Network” show that will be at Pablo Delcan’s “The Field Room” in Callicoon, NY.
The show will be running July 20 - September 20. Specifics on how to visit will be released soon.
Also, information on the second edition of the zine is coming soon!
I have been making prints for the “Discovering Water Through the Photograph’s Lens” show at the Galli-Curci Theater in Margaretville, NY. The show will be running August 3 - August 18.
I will be showing a grid of 100 chronological photographs from my series “The River” that I made between April 2020 and May 2021.
Slowly but surely I am working my way through the final edit of my Normal Houses book.
I have a quote lined up to produce 1,000 copies and I hope I can get it out to the printer within the next month or two for a release date in November or December. More information and a pre-order soon(ish)!
I am 3/4 done with scanning my entire archive of photographs with an app called Excire Foto. For the first time, I will be able to quickly search every photo I have ever taken, including the raw files. I hope this will be a massive improvement over what I currently use (Google Photos).
As of July 9 the program has scanned 1,061,838 photos on my NAS. I am going to dedicate a newsletter to this in a few weeks. Sorting through this using the AI search function is fascinating on a number of levels and I’d like to talk about the experience. This is not a paid promotion (although it should be!).

My class “Why We Photograph” at Catskill Art Space about photography and existentialism was indefinitely postponed because nobody signed up. I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect outcome!

Damn, bummer about the Catskill workshop. I signed up in the spring and was really looking forward to it. Been a fan of your work for a long time! Then, summer life and home renovation stuff happened this summer so I couldn't swing it. Anyway, love the newsletter, love the youtube channel. It's really refreshing to see a photographer doing exactly what they want to do, and only what they want to do on YouTube rather than another camera review of whatever the fuck.
