This was a beautiful read, with some truly inspirational photographs. "Sorry Bean" at the end really got me. I'm now staring at the magnolia tree just outside my window with some ideas swirling around in my head.

Love this. Bean and bush are now forever linked.

The misaligned shirt is a nice little detail.

As are the pictures of the Lilac.

I always look forward to this.

As an aside, I have a large weeping cherry tree in my front yard. The bloom this year was the thinnest of the three since I’ve been in this house. It made me sad. But there was still something to appreciate.

Todd Hido vibes on some of those Lilac images.

We lost our little pup two weeks ago. The grief shows up in surprising ways. Chopping carrots (those were a favourite snack), looking out the back door (where I used to watch him), passing the pet food aisle in the grocery store. The little man occupied a big space in our lives.

I first heard a hermit thrush back in 2011 up in Maine. I was fresh off the boat and didn't know how a bird could generate that almost electronic end to their song. Do you know the bit I mean – it's so high, right at the end but only sometimes. I've loved them ever since. Sorry about Bean. It's that inevitable loss that holds us back from getting a cat, partly.

Love a good hermit thrush, but now that you and Walt Whitman mention it, yes, it captures the vocalization and exclamation of grief. Bean was a beautiful cat, my condolences... P.S. Lilac is definitely a bush, or is it a shrub? What is the difference?

This was a roller coaster. Sorry for your loss.

I grew up with a large lilac bush, right outside our dining room and it would smell just absolutely wonderful during the summer. Our cat Schmooze would roll around in the petals when they fell off. Thanks for the memories and my condolences.

Enjoyed this very much. PS. Don’t know about Zach but FYI in the Uk Lilac is as in ‘Lie Luck’ while our American family would say ‘ liLAC’ as in Lie Back. Pronunciation ever interesting!
