I can envision a number of philosophical metaphors here: the need for complex and specific connections to access old video being an allegory for cognitive psychology; apple-themed puns in the form of displaying your “core” in a crate; constructing a preferred outward persona from purposefully selected pieces; the complex and outmoded digital artifacts housed in simple, analog shells. This newsletter has it all.

I think you left out the part where you are opening a side business transferring old video. I’ve got a couple Hi8s of my kids I’d love to send you. Seriously now, good stuff … we don’t change, it’s true, at least not at the essence of our being.

It's so cool that you have old videos of yourself. I have none - my family members were not not camera types and video cameras were too expensive for us back in the 70s and 80s. I like the revelation that you have always been the same person. I wrote a memoir and came to a similar conclusion.

This is so fascinating! I just wrote a piece about physical media which was inspired by a 25-year-old cassette recording I found of myself (where I also had a ridiculous accent that has since been socialized out of me). Really incredible stuff
