Sometimes when I don't know what to do
when everything around me seems overwhelming
when I feel like I have nothing important enough to say
or like I have nothing interesting enough going on
I drive to the water and make a photograph of the water and the horizon and the sky.
The horizon line is my focal point, drawing me in with its natural precision.
When life feels chaotic, I return to these elemental compositions.
Water, sky, and that infinite point of clarity that separates them.
It's a meditative practice for me, helping me find stillness through repetition.
So when I don't know what to do, I know exactly what to do.
I go to the water and wait for the light to change, knowing that even if nothing else makes sense, this always will.
