Last year around this time, something happened.
I think it had rained a lot. Or maybe there was something in the air? I have no idea how it works.
But there were mushrooms everywhere.
Different styles. Shapes. Colors.
I couldn’t stop taking photos.
Then recently, a few weeks ago, I was driving to Home Depot to buy a can of paint and saw wildflowers all along the side of the road.
I got out of my car and started photographing them.
There were lots of varieties and colors. Truly fascinating and beautiful stuff.
But there was something about these photos that wasn’t working for me.
They just weren’t as good as the photos I made of the mushrooms last year.
I packed up my gear and got back in the car.
On my way home I drove by an ice cream shop. I was feeling bad about my wildflower photos not being that good, so I decided to stop for ice cream to cheer myself up.
This ice cream shop isn’t open year round. Only in the summer.
It pops up at a certain time of year, the same way mushrooms and wildflowers do.
I got a vanilla cone with rainbow sprinkles.

I love the way you have the light on those flowers, with the dark background. Did they look any better when you cropped them to focus on just one, like the mushrooms?
I'm currently eating salted caramel and peanut dark chocolate clusters, and now I'm thinking of sticking them in some ice-cream.
